While the public schools are preparing for increasing the tuition fees, a private educational institution of Kathmandu Valley, Samata Sikshya Niketan, has started its higher education programs for only NRs. 100 per month. Samata College, under the affiliation from Tribhuvan University, has started course offering of four-year management and three-year humanities stream. Samata College was officially inaugurated on Tuesday by Dr. Upendra Mahato, Anuradha Koirala and the famous comedian duo, Madan Krishna Shrestha and Hari Bansha Acharya.
There are 50 students each enrolled in management and humanities stream for the first year. Coordinator of Samata Group, Uttam Sanjel also plans to open MBA under master’s program within a month. According to Sanjel, the only resource for school and college management comes from donation and crowd-sourcing. Chair of Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRN), Dr. Upendra Mahato has donated NRs. 36.5 m to Samata in last three years. Likewise, other donors have also contributed up to NRs. 20,000 to 500,000. Sanjel also quoted that the only mission of the school and college is to facilitate easy reach of education to the economically deprived.
The college is entirely built with bamboo and has state-of-the-art facility with 100 rooms. The cost of this sustainable structure came to be NRs. 7.5 m. Madan Krishna Shrestha open-heartedly appreciated the initiation and said that it is a great effort and also a matter of glory for our nation. Other private colleges charge a monthly fee of about NRs. 2,000 for management and humanities studies, but one can get the same quality education at Samata College for only NRs. 100 per month.
Samata Sikshya Niketan started its education 14 years ago from Jorpati in Kathmandu with 850 students, and now there are 38,000 pre-primary to secondary students at 19 different schools from 19 different districts around the country. Here’s a short video to know more about Samata School.
This year 557 students will be appearing for SLC examination from 11 schools of Samata. There are 150 college students studying at Samata College in Kathmandu. Samata Sikshya Niketan has also been operating a 25-bed Samata Hospital at Bouddha in Kathmandu. Coordinator Sanjel also plans to run PCL Nursing program from next year under the affiliation of CTEVT. He also said that PCL Nursing course will also be offered at NRs. 100 per month.
